Why It Matters: The Landscaper Who Plants Pollinators Near a Playground

It’s hot.
The ground is dry.
The hours are long and the shovels don’t swing themselves.

But a landscaper leans into it—prepping a softscape bed beside a local playground.
No big reveal. No ribbon-cutting. No attention.

Just native plants, pollinators, and purpose.
Because kids should grow up surrounded by butterflies—not just mulch and metal.

Before I ever set foot on a golf course crew, landscaping was my first green gig.
I learned the value of sweat, soil, and subtlety. I learned how beauty gets built—one stubborn weed and perfectly placed perennial at a time.

I also learned that sometimes, what we plant isn’t just about curb appeal. It’s about life.
Pollinator plants near playgrounds? They attract more than butterflies.
They invite curiosity.
They spark wonder.
They soften the world just a bit—for the kids who run past without knowing someone cared enough to make it feel magical.

For me, butterflies carry extra weight.
I lost my 15-year-old daughter in 2019, and since then, butterflies have become a quiet sign of hope. A sign of presence. A reminder that beauty still finds a way.

So when I see a pollinator garden in a park, I don’t just see landscaping—I see care.
I see someone honoring life, not just managing space.

And that’s why it matters.
